Bottega Veneta will help to restore elements of St. Mark’s Basilica that were damaged in Venice’s recent devastating floods. The Italian fashion label – which was founded near the city – will donate 30 per cent of profits from the sale of some of their most popular handbags directly for the restoration of the cathedral.

The house has teamed up with non-profit organisation Venetian Heritage on the project, which will see a cut of profits from the sale of four of Bottega Veneta’s handbags this December – BV Classic, Marie, BV Angle and Arco – going to help restore the mosaic floors and marble walls which were damaged last month.

“We are proud to contribute to the restoration of St. Mark’s Basilica, one of the most important and inspirational landmarks of the city of Venice,” the house’s creative director Daniel Lee told WWD. “As a company, we are deeply involved in the preservation of the heritage of the Veneto region.”

In November, a number of world-famous heritage sites, as well as hotels and stores, were damaged in what was the worst flooding that Venice had seen in 50 years, leading to Italy declaring a state of national emergency.
